Swift Horses

SCRIPTURE from Isaiah 30:15-16: This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it. You said, ‘No, we will flee on horses.’ Therefore you will flee! You said, ‘We will ride off on swift horses.’ Therefore your pursuers will be swift!

THOUGHT Isaiah 30 has been the site of inspiration for me many times — this passage was the basis for my masters’ thesis in fact. So much of our failure in the life of faith is because we have a hard time trusting God. Sometimes we’re not sure God is trustworthy. Sometimes we are impatient with what seems to be God’s slowness in answering our prayers. And sometimes, we’re more consumed with getting the glory for ourselves than allowing God’s will in our lives.

I don’t know about you, but I have tired myself out by jumping on swift horses and trying to outrun whatever I imagined was going to get me next. When God says my job is rest and repentance, I am willing. In that place, rest and repentance, God will show me what he wants of me — and I believe the same for you.
