A ‘Letting Go’

SCRIPTURE Malachi 3:8 KJV And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.

THOUGHT Flowing out of the better-known Malachi passage where God pleads for his people to trust him in the matter of tithing, God promises if they will trust and even test him, he will ‘rebuke the devourer’ for their sakes. Although we might not all be planting crops or tending vineyards, we are all in need of a harvest from whatever work we put our hands to. I long for my ‘fields’ to be fruitful, and here I find the key: God is so ready and willing to rebuke that which destroys our fruitfulness and make provision for our needs, but he needs us to trust him with our income, giving back liberally what was never ours to begin with. A tithe, ten percent of our income. A ‘letting go’ that God says we need to keep our heads and hearts in the right place.

I can trust a God who invites me to test him, what about you?
