SCRIPTURE Mark 4:39-40 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
THOUGHT The boat was going down, and Jesus was sleeping! I hear echoes of the children of Israel in the disciples’ question (or accusation) of Jesus: don’t you care that we’re about to drown? (v. 38)
Moses heard these accusations against God too. Don’t you care? Did you bring us out here to die? Perhaps God, like Jesus that day, was resting from his labors? After all, he had just split a sea, delivered a nation, and drowned their enemies. Jesus, on the other hand, had been teaching all day and dealing with crowds. He rested, in quiet confidence that his Father was in complete control. Yet both Father and Son endured the question from their followers — the question that revealed, despite daily miracles, their faith was only as deep as the next circumstance.
Could we, in our own boat in a storm, exercise the faith God has grown in us by miracle after miracle? Will we rest, confident, or will we fall back to wondering if we are loved after all?

PRAYER NEED Our hearts to be “tuned” to sing His praise rather than grumble against God.
