SCRIPTURE: Psalm 31:24 ESV Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!
THOUGHT: Filled with powerful imagery of shelter, protection, and incredible trust in the midst of trouble, Psalm 31 is a song of David. It contains the words Jesus quotes with his final breath, “into your hand I commit my spirit.” The verse continues, “you have redeemed me, oh LORD God of truth (v. 5, NKJV).” I often think of those words as a relinquishment by Jesus, a giving up, if you will — but when I read the whole Psalm (words Jesus would have memorized and maybe even sung), I hear him declaring his absolute trust in Abba, even at the worst moment of his life.
The truth redeems. It’s hard to find, hard to understand at times, and hard to hold onto when you feel like you’re sinking, but oh, so valuable. Proverbs 23 says “buy the truth and do not sell it.” Our God speaks truth, and so saints, be strong and let your heart take courage as you wait for God. The one who calls us is faithful, and he will do it (I Thes. 5:24)!

PRAYER: Oh God, let your voice of truth be found, picked out among all the other voices that compete for our attention. Come and redeem, for your name’s sake.
