What Are You Fighting For?

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 3:11-12 NLT I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown. All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it.

THOUGHT: Whatever does it mean to be a pillar in the temple of God? Before you read on, use your imagination for a minute — what would it be like? What would you sing; what would your face look like when you finally know the truth about everything? What would it be like to be known as so firm in your faith that you are called “pillar?”

I spend more and more time dreaming about heaven these days. Blessedly, it finally has more to do with my spirit’s longing for this place where everything is made new than the fear of dying. Scripture is filled with amazing descriptions of the kingdom of heaven — and Jesus the carpenter (and savior) is building homes there for us. He promises to come back and fulfill his promise, and Revelation says “soon.”

There is reason to persist, to persevere in our faith, to endure and overcome trials and temptations! There is reason! Go find it, so that you have a robust theology of what you’re fighting for! And hold onto to what you have — don’t let anyone or anything steal the crown that has your new name on it.

SONG: It Is Well (Nashville studio singers, live from each of their homes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=10&v=nDIJz6zzHNU&feature=emb_logo

PRAYER: Help us find joy and a reason to persevere when we look at your promises that transcend time, oh God. To sing, “it is well” even when chaos surrounds us.
