Valley of the Shadow

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 23:4 ESV Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.

THOUGHT: A walk through the valley of the shadow of death — an apt description of these days, wouldn’t you say? Worldwide almost a quarter of a million people gone, and families left to cope in an environment very conducive to grief and equally hostile to gathering. More than 27 percent of these deaths have touched us here in the states.

As we walk the valley, the big question for us is can we hold on to the part about not being afraid because we are not alone? There is one walking beside us, in grief, in pain, in depression, in fear and anxiety, in overwhelm…he seeks to comfort us, and prepares nourishment for us even when those enemies make us want to give up.

Accept his comfort, take in his nourishment for the journey ahead. You are not alone.

PRAYER: Good Shepherd, I press into your side. It’s dark and sometimes lonely here in the valley. Make your presence, your comfort, your nourishment more real to me today than these enemies.
