Testing God

SCRIPTURE: Exodus 17:7 Moses named the place Massah (which means “test”) and Meribah (which means “arguing”) because the people of Israel argued with Moses and tested the Lord by saying, “Is the Lord here with us or not?”

THOUGHT: God leads us to our need. Did you ever stop to think about that? What would it look like to be confronted with a need and break tradition with people who cry out against God rather than to God. Because trust was so slim, the waters of Meribah became a place of quarreling rather than blessing. God’s test of human hearts showed that they were still testing him rather than trusting him.

When we focus on the problem rather than God’s past provision and present goodness, we fail God, ourselves, and the others looking to us for guidance.

PRAYER: Father, thank you that we are always on your radar. We don’t need to test you in the storm, we just need to trust you.
