SCRIPTURE: 2 Cor. 4:7-9 NIV But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
THOUGHT: Pastor Rick Warren opened his New York Times #1 bestseller, The Purpose Driven Life, with that famed statement: “It’s not about you,” a theme he manages to hold on to throughout the 334 pages that follow. Isn’t it interesting that 34 million copies sold and it’s been printed and reprinted in 70 languages, when the idea collides with so much of culture around us?
Paul knew it a couple of thousand years ago and tried to help early Christians understand that God has a stake in everything happening to us and around us — to show his great power to the watching world. We can endure through the pressing, the perplexities, even the persecution and pounding because we will never be abandoned or destroyed.

PRAYER: In Jesus’ name, we press on. Not for our glory, God, but for yours. Shine through these clay pots — light on each other and on the world you love.
