Slave to Fear?

SCRIPTURE: James 5:16 NLT, Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

THOUGHT: We have a fear of the word “sin,” don’t we? Even though John said we all have it and if we say we don’t, we lie (1 John 1:8). Still, I read this passage from James and wonder how many people take it seriously. Do you practice confessing with another human being, then praying for each other? Do you see the connection James makes between this practice and being called righteous because of it? That’s…wow…crazy. Admit sin to each other and God will hear our prayers. And what about the outcomes of healing, great power, and wonderful results James says follow?

It’s a simple thing to confess (maybe not easy, but simple!) — it just takes courage and appropriate humility, and the belief that grace is greater than anything.

PRAYER: Help us drop our fear and need to pretend with others who love you, Lord. Break us from our slavery to perfectionism — and let grace and freedom and healing and righteousness follow!
