What We Didn’t Ask For

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 143:7 NLT Come quickly, Lord, and answer me, for my depression deepens. Don’t turn away from me, or I will die.

THOUGHT: When we’ve come face to face with desperation — at the end of our own strategies to make life work — we respond in one of two ways: 1) we give up on God and turn away bitter, or 2) we become broken and see the truth that it has ever been thus. We have always been desperate for God’s intervention, God’s life, God’s love, God’s truth about us and the world, and just didn’t see it. Then we can begin to entertain brokenness as a good thing.

PRAYER: Thank you, dear Father, that you love us enough to meet us in ways that we certainly would have never asked for.
