SCRIPTURE: Is 1:18 ESV Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
THOUGHT: I love the truth that the God of the universe is open to reasoning with us – and this isn’t the only place in Scripture I see this invitation to engage with the Almighty. It is God who gave us our powers of reasoning to begin with, modeled after his own. When you consider the twin truths that God invites us to argue with him and at the same time feels compassion for us because we are dust, it paints the picture of a perfectly self-disciplined, perfectly loving parent inviting deep conversation with a child.
God does us the favor of listening when we need to vent. In the end, however, we may want to think twice about arguing for our sin with a God willing to wipe it clean as snow.

PRAYER: Thank you for honoring us with your time and your ear, Lord. Help us not to waste your time in arguing for our sinful strategies when you stand so ready to wash us from them!
