SCRIPTURE: Ps 123:2 MSG Like servants, alert to their master’s commands, like a maiden attending her lady, we’re watching and waiting, holding our breath, awaiting your word of mercy.
THOUGHT: Do I wait for a word from God in the same way I wait for my water and menu to arrive when I dine out? Yawn. Wow, I’ve been here five minutes already!
The psalmist suggests that as we wait for mercy, we should look more like the servant of a sovereign, watching for the slightest move of a finger to get our attention – there is nothing more important, and nothing that can distract us. When was the last time I gave God that kind of attention? When was the last time I didn’t get impatient as I waited, flitting on to the next thing that promised more control? When was the last time I held my breath, like a kid waiting for a parent’s “yes,” before running out the door in joyful triumph when it sounded?
Jesus taught his disciples to keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking – keep waiting for God to move. There will be an answer!

PRAYER: Lord, we are an impatient people with a perception that whatever we can reach most quickly will satisfy us. Help us as we ask, seek, and knock to be willing to wait for your perfect answer to our request.
