God the Temple

SCRIPTURE: Rev. 21:22 NIV I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

THOUGHT: Here is a verse for the imagination! Even on this side of heaven we “walk around” in God – hidden with Christ in God (Col. 3:3), covered by wings (Ps. 91:4), surrounded by a strong tower (Prov. 18:10), wrapped in a robe of righteousness (Is. 61:10). But imagine for a moment arriving at the gates of the new heaven and new earth and walking into a temple called “God Almighty and the Lamb,” a living, breathing temple that covers the city; a huge expanse where the presence of God is everywhere palpable, where light never fades, where our own spirits become not just righteous but perfect (Heb. 12:23), and where there is an even closer union between us and the one who is pure love. Our bodies, a small temple of God, will arrive in the larger temple of God. A glorious ending and a breathtaking beginning in a space not built by human hands (Acts 17:24).

How could there not be worship 24-7-365 in such a place?

PRAYER: Lord, we find ourselves grateful for the glimpses Scripture provides of what will be. We are surrounded by you now, but long to know you even as we are known. For all the hopes deferred, the dreams dashed, the trusts betrayed, the lies that pummel, that will be a day unlike any other. The Great Undoing. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
