Secrets

SCRIPTURE: Col 2:2-4 MSG I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God. Then you will have minds confident and at rest, focused on Christ, God’s great mystery. All the richest treasures of wisdom and knowledge are embedded in that mystery and nowhere else. And we’ve been shown the mystery! I’m telling you this because I don’t want anyone leading you off on some wild-goose chase, after other so-called mysteries, or “the Secret.”

THOUGHT: Secrets can be damaging. If you’ve ever lived in a family with secrets that had to be kept, you know that’s true. They can provoke irritation and jealousy — you know that feeling you get when everyone knows something you don’t? Keeping secrets can also be fear-producing as you wonder what kind of fool you are, or will be in front of others when secrets are revealed. There are no secrets in Christianity, Paul tells the Colossians. Now that Jesus is revealed, all the rich treasure and knowledge is out on the table. Our faith is not a club, or secret set of rules and words that outsiders can’t understand. We’ve been shown the mystery and it’s not our job to keep secrets.

On the other hand, Paul says that in touch with the secret of Christ, now revealed, we have minds confident and at rest. That’s a gift I want!

PRAYER: Thank you God, that you showed us your secrets in Christ. His words are saved in Scripture so we can see and hear them. Help us find the words to simply share this good news with others instead of making them feel our faith is a club or secret set of rules.
