Asymptomatic

SCRIPTURE: Joshua 7:13 (NIV) This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There are devoted things among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove them.

THOUGHT: In a strange comparison to the dreaded Covid 19, we can also have sin and be asymptomatic. We rush to protect our bodies from everything under the sun while leaving our most precious organ, the heart, vulnerable to microscopic droplets of greed, lust, love of comfort, idols, judgment, and the fear of so many, many things. They infiltrate our lifeblood, gaining power and growing unseen until one day they can no longer hide. God says through Joshua that we can’t stand against our enemies until we bring lesser devotions into the open, confess, and reject them.

PRAYER: Help us be alive to tasting your goodness, oh God. Deliver us from all our lesser desires and devotions – forgive us even our sin that seems asymptomatic for the moment. Prepare us to stand against our enemies.
