Rest

SCRIPTURE: Jeremiah 6:16 NLT This is what the Lord says: “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’

THOUGHT: It’s interesting to me that God cares about our rest. He orders up a day of rest each week, says through Isaiah his prophet “in repentance and rest is your salvation (Is. 30:15 NIV),” through his son, Jesus, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Mt. 11:28 NIV),” and here, through Jeremiah, that finding rest for our souls is comes from travelling in time-tested, God-revealed (or ancient, some translations say) paths.

God wants to give our mind, will, emotions, and body rest! Let that sink into your always-busy, fretful, worried self – then plan your next steps around what God says, not culture.

PRAYER: Oh God, I find myself restless at so many things right now – economy, loss, disease, politics, change, change, change. Help me today to find my place in you – a place of ancient truths that work today and forever, a place of rest.
