Choices

SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 30:15-16 NIV This is what the Sovereign LORD the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it. You said, ‘No, we will flee on horses.’ Therefore you will flee! You said, ‘We will ride off on swift horses.’ Therefore your pursuers will be swift!”

THOUGHT: Choice is a wonderful thing…until it isn’t. We love our freedom, but it can as easily be used to imprison as to pursue real life. God’s strange recipe for strength and life involves four things we aren’t that fond of: repentance, rest, quietness, and trust of him. We are perfectly free to build a life around them – but faster horses will always allure and beckon, ready to carry us off at breakneck speed to the next distraction, addiction, attraction, or destination that leaves us tired and empty. We have choices.

PRAYER: Help us be people of repentance, rest, quietness and deep trust of you, our God, even in the midst of the good work you have given us to do.
