SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 11:1 NIV Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.
THOUGHT: For the next several weeks, I’d like to share a thought about each of the “ancients” that the writer of Hebrews speaks about. The common thread between them (and us) is faith – they trusted God before they saw particular promises fulfilled, and like Abraham, their confidence and assurance was what God was seeking. The writer says, in fact, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him (v. 6).”
Trusting that God exists and is good is only the beginning of faith, but it’s a place we return to often on the journey.

PRAYER: Oh great God, examine our hearts for the gift of faith (1 Cor. 12:9). Where we are lacking, please give us more. May our faith please you and bless others.
