Surrender

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 11:17-19 NIV By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.

THOUGHT: What do you do after you embrace God’s promises and he asks you to give them up? This was a watershed moment for Abraham. The death of a vision. I could see myself arguing with God, or shaking my fist, or accusing God of bait-and-switch, or refusing to walk another step, but Abraham climbs the mountain with Isaac, and the words, “God will provide,” are his liturgy. His whole soul – mind, will, emotions – have become accustomed to trusting God – “God will provide.” He can look back at mistakes and missteps that have cost him dearly and has reached the peak of spiritual maturity, surrender – the end of self. “God will provide.” He has burned every other bridge save a big trust in a big God.

Surely, God will provide.

PRAYER: Kill what you want and resurrect what you want in me, oh God. You have been trustworthy, and you will provide.
