Faith & The Rest of the Story

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 11:22 NIV By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions concerning the burial of his bones.

THOUGHT: Have you ever found yourself somewhere and said, “there’s no way this could be God’s will!” Joseph never expected to be rejected so hatefully as a teen and sold into slavery by his own half-brothers; he never knew how hard he would need to hold onto his faith in God through all he endured in a pagan culture. But he was faithful to God, even in the midst of doubts and questions. And God was faithfully working out a plan, despite sin and the strategies of evil.

Now, at the end, Joseph sees how God has brought his childhood dreams to reality. His desert has become an oasis for his family and relationships within the family are restored. Still, he knows that Egypt is not the end of their story and by faith sees a future beyond the hard times and slavery to come. He sees the land God has promised his father Jacob, and before that his grandfather Isaac, and before that, his great-grandfather Abraham. Your faith – my faith – can do that too. When we face hard times and are certain it cannot be God’s will, we can continue to pray for God’s will to be done, trust, and hold on for the rest of the story.

PRAYER: Oh God, enlarge my faith to trust you for the whole story, even when the chapter I’m in makes little sense.
