Who Stands Across From Me?

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 11:24-26 NIV By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

THOUGHT: I’ve done a little work in sales, and am profoundly aware that you never know who might be standing across the counter from you. It could be the dressed up gal who got laid off already a year ago and can hardly afford to refresh her resume, or it could be the CEO of a large company, dressed in jeans and a tee.

In a similar way, Moses had no idea of the assignment coming his way when God stood across from him at the burning bush. Right along he may have thought he was delivering the Hebrews from oppressive slavery, but far in the future, the writer of Hebrews says it was for the sake of Christ. Now, how can that be? Just like his ancestor Joseph saved the seed of the Messiah by saving his family from starvation, Moses preserved the lineage and heritage of Jesus by delivering the Hebrew people into the land God had promised them. Neither Joseph nor Moses was in the direct lineage of Jesus, but because faith in God motivated their lives, they both played a critical role in Jesus’ life.

Until we know all things, it’s safe to say we don’t really know who or how our life will impact another. So, keep praying, keep listening, and keep faith alive.

PRAYER: Keep us awake to where you are moving Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And even when we can’t understand what you’re doing, help faith to motivate our every move.
