THOUGHT: It may have seemed an almost-silly exercise – but this is how Exodus 12 describes God’s instructions for the exodus from slavery: take a perfect lamb to cook for a meal four nights from now, putting some of the blood on each doorpost and the beam above the door. Roast it over a fire – don’t cook it any other way, and don’t eat it with anything but bitter herbs and flatbread. Eat it with your sandals on and your walking stick in your hand. Eat it in a hurry!
These instructions may not have meant much to the Hebrew people, but they meant something to God. We may not always understand God’s instructions – in fact, they might seem trivial or out-of-fashion, but God has reasons if we only trust, and in this case, the broken chains of slavery are the result. A goal worth pursuing – even if we don’t understand the path.

PRAYER: Oh God, we value our own way of seeing things above you so often. We justify what we want to do, regardless of what you’ve said. Oh God, don’t let us miss the life and freedom found in just following your instructions. We’ve tasted that fruit, and don’t want to again.
