Where Feet May Fail

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 11:29 NIV By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.

THOUGHT: Did you realize that God instructed Moses to take the people out of Egypt to a dead end? It was no accident that they found themselves hemmed in between the devil and the deep blue sea. Exodus 14 recounts the story of how they cried out to God in terror, then just as quickly cried out against Moses for what seemed impending death. Moses tells them, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still (Ex. 14:14).” Well…but first they have to trust God and Moses enough to put their feet into the place where failure and skepticism and doubt and anger collided. Then, they could be still as their enemies disappeared. If you ever doubt that God is more creative than you with a GPS, just read that story again.

PRAYER: Lord God, it wasn’t just the leaders like Moses who needed faith, it was every man, woman, boy and girl. When we face a dead end, help us trust you for your great, immeasurable creativity.
