SCRIPTURE: Col. 1:20 NLT …and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.
THOUGHT: The God of the Universe has spoken peace to you and I.
Five times in his various letters (Rom. 15:33 and 16:20, Phil. 4:9, 2 Cor. 13:11 and 1 Thess. 5:23), Paul names God the God of peace. It’s an important concept he’s trying to get across to his readers. The writer of Hebrews uses the same phrase in his benediction (Heb. 13:20). The angels announce peace on earth the night Jesus is born (Lk. 2:14). Acts 10:36 says we have peace with God through Jesus; Romans 5:1 says we have peace with God through Jesus; and in today’s passage, Paul says God made peace with everything in heaven and on earth in the same way – allowing the blood of Jesus to totally reconcile everything to himself.
It’s all there if we want it; if we dare to believe; if we dare to trust; if we dare to listen.

PRAYER: Thank you, God. In declaring peace with us, you have done what we could never do: make peace with you by our efforts at perfection, greatness, lofty ideals, good behavior, or human progress. Help us see the hugeness of your offer, walk into it with gratitude, and never leave again.
