SCRIPTURE: Acts 17:22-23 NLT 22 So Paul, standing before the council, addressed them as follows: “Men of Athens, I notice that you are very religious in every way, for as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it: ‘To an Unknown God.’ This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I’m telling you about.
THOUGHT: The Unknown God. It hurts my heart to even think that phrase – partly because I lived as one who didn’t really know God for so many years. I thought about God. I talked about God. I even went to church when it suited me. But I didn’t know God’s heart or seek him. I didn’t believe he wanted to be known. I pegged him as either disinterested or mean and went my own way after saying “yes” to Jesus as a child, and again as a young adult. We can be “religious in every way,” as Paul told the Athenians, without really taking time to know God. We who have walked that journey (away), need a friend like Paul who will build a hunger and thirst in our hearts to know and serve the living God.
Maybe you are the one who hungers, or maybe you are the Paul.

PRAYER: Thank you God, for intelligent, compassionate, truth-telling friends who love you above all else. And thank you that you want to be known.
