SCRIPTURE: Acts 17:27-28 NLT “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
THOUGHT: I am a bear of little brain. I can be complicated (as anyone who knows me well can attest!) but prefer simple truths that cut through all the rhetoric to a crystalline conclusion, aka cut to the chase. I am horrible at politics, whether at work, at church, in relationships, or on a national scale (also something others can attest to!).
Here Paul paints a simple but profound picture that cuts through all the complexities and long-winded theories of the pantheistic culture before him. In essence, he says, You’re making it too hard. Even now, you’re walking around in God, breathing because of God, dwelling in God’s domain. God is not far away, he is near. His reason for creating you was so you would seek, feel your way toward, and find him! You call him an “unknown God,” but he can be known.

PRAYER: Thank you for your purposes, God, stated simply by one who knew you well and loved you completely. You are near. We are your children. You want us to move toward you. You want to be found.
