Promised Lands

SCRIPTURE: Joshua 1:9 NLT This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

THOUGHT: Whatever does it mean when the God of the Universe tells you three times in eight brief sentences, be strong and be courageous?

It means you better get ready, because you’re going to need to be very strong and courageous. God also tells Joshua 1) what his commission is (to lead Israel to the promised land), 2) how to be successful (remember the instruction of his own leader, Moses and meditate day and night on the Book of Instruction – likely the first five books of our Bible), and 3) why he doesn’t need to be afraid or discouraged (because God will be with him every moment).

Whatever promised land God is taking you to will require strength and courage – but draw hope and peace from the knowledge that the Lord your God is with you.

PRAYER: Thank you, God, that you give us what we need to accomplish whatever you have called us to, and you never ask us to go alone.
