SCRIPTURE: James 1:5 NLT If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
THOUGHT: On the heels of James’ advice to consider testing and trials a joy (yesterday’s devo), he makes what I believe one of the biggest promises in all of Scripture: If you don’t have the wisdom you need when you encounter these various trials, you can ask for it. God gives wisdom generously, to all, without finding fault. He won’t nag you about your past, or your failure to use the wisdom he gave last time, or why you need wisdom for the same test over and over and over. That’s someone else’s voice in your head. God doesn’t find fault. That reminds me of something Paul says: No condemnation to those who are in Jesus (Romans 8:1).
PRAYER: I need your wisdom for the difficulties, the setbacks, the things that aren’t going well, God. I need your wisdom, generous and without criticism, on this journey toward perseverance. Help me know which mountains to climb and which I am climbing that you never asked me to. Help me stop listening to all the clamoring voices that aren’t yours.
