SCRIPTURE: Psalm 121:1-2 NLT I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth!
THOUGHT: I’ve been tempted in my life to idolize beauty. It seemed okay to me – after all, Paul says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things…. And the God of peace will be with you (Phil. 4:8-9). Scripture says to set my mind on what is lovely, and peace will follow!
But God has been talking to me about hoping I will find sustenance and meaning and hope and peace in forests or rivers or oceans or flowers — any vista that delights my eyes and senses – even if all the while I’m thanking God for it. I’m realizing afresh that the maker of all the beauty is the only one who can fill those longings. So as my eyes have been filled with the beauty of the earth this week, I’ve consciously been not only grateful, but remembering my help doesn’t come from the view, but the maker of heaven and earth.

PRAYER: God I look to you; I won’t be overwhelmed. Give me vision to see things like you do. God I look to you; you’re where my help comes from. Give me wisdom, you know just what to do.
