SCRIPTURE: Eph. 3:17-19 NIV And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
THOUGHT: This is the second time in his prayer for the Ephesians that Paul asks for power. The first time was for power through God’s Spirit, filling their insides, enabling them to have faith in Christ. This time it’s power for all God’s people together to grasp…riches? Plenty? Success? God’s glory? People’s approval? No. He asks God to bless them with the power to grasp the unfathomable love of Christ; to apprehend it, to experience it firsthand. And that this knowing will lead to being filled with the fullness of God. May it be so with you and me.
PRAYER: Oh God, so often I’ve longed to be power-full, but I’m coming to see that it may not mean what I’ve thought. You want me full of the power necessary to grasp the fullness of Christ’s love. Thus full of you. Amen, so be it!
