SCRIPTURE: Psalm 127:1 AMP Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain.
THOUGHT: Fred and I have an anniversary to celebrate today. It’s an anniversary of redemption in some ways. We are clearly not each other’s salvation but we’ve gotten to play a part in each other’s redemption — the restoration of something God made sacred; the buying back of what was stolen or wrecked or sold or twisted or broken. We both had some wreckage in the marriage department for sure. But from this day seven years ago, we have been living in the redemption of that wreckage. Rebuilding with the plans of the master builder. Clearing away rubble. Patiently sorting what could be saved and what needed to go. It’s been hard, as marriage always is, but it’s also been so good.
That’s what redemption tastes like when God builds the house. Hard, but good. We no longer labor in vain – and that is something to celebrate!
PRAYER: Jesus, I pray for every marriage, and every unmarried person reading this today. Our hope in love can be so fragile. Restore every heart, rebuild us stronger, full of faith and ready to be patient for the kind of redemption only you can bring. Please build the house and guard the city so we don’t labor in vain.
