Everything

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 73:25-26 AMP Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the rock and strength of my heart and my portion forever.

THOUGHT: Maybe it seems over-the-top to think God is everything. Perhaps your heart argues against that, as mine once did. But the songwriter of old has seen (like I have) that there are things happening on earth that cannot be explained or understood. Injustice. Wealth used to extort and cheat and bribe. Mocking what is sacred. Arrogance. Violence. You can read the entire Psalm if you don’t believe me. But in today’s verses, the writer finds a place to stand in the storm. We are surrounded by God, it’s just that some get that and some do not. Taking an eternal perspective gives earth its proper perspective too.

PRAYER: Oh God, when my heart and flesh fail at everything that I cannot control, thank you for providing me with a larger, more solid place to stand. You are everything, including the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
