SCRIPTURE: 2 Cor. 3:4-6 NIV Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
THOUGHT: Competence in God is a different matter than competence in the world. To be declared competent in the world requires success, slickness, outward appeal, charisma, money. But God declares us competent as his representatives because of faith in what Christ can do – not what we can do. We can have confidence whether or not we have what the world wants. And we cannot suddenly lose our confidence or our competence because we cannot lose the Spirit who lives in us and gives life.

PRAYER: Thank you, God, that our confidence rests on what is rock solid in a world where confidence is so often shattered, exposing that whatever else was trusted was not so perfect after all.
