Where You Look

SCRIPTURE: 2 Cor. 4:18 NIV So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

THOUGHT: I’m sometimes a little like a rubber-necking driver – can’t take my eyes off the scene of the fender-bender even though there’s an awe-inspiring sunset filling the sky ahead of me. It’s an imperfect metaphor, I admit. But the point is, I want to be a Christian who sees the temporary, cares about it, and doesn’t let it become the focal point. To be one whose eyes are fixed on what is eternal, allowing timeless truths to color my days and nights no matter what passes before them. To say with Isaiah, “Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. He who vindicates me is near (Is. 50:7-8 NIV).”

PRAYER: Eternity is such a long time, oh God. It’s so tempting to think what I can see now is all there is. Keep lifting my head and fixing my eyes on what is eternal in every moment of my day.
