SCRIPTURE: 2 Cor. 5:4 NLT While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life.
THOUGHT: Loving life now, with all its crazy ups and downs, is no sin. In fact, there’s an old saying, “you can be so heavenly minded that you’re no earthly good,” and I think it’s true. But we’re on a continuum of being alive; it’s not an either/or equation, it’s a both/and. I suspect that someday, if we can look back, we might laugh at the notion that this was really life.
Some days I do groan and sigh a lot – but imagine with me for a moment what it might be like to be “swallowed up by life,” as Paul puts it. To put on eternity like clothing over the righteousness with which Christ has already covered us. I admit, I do look forward to that point on the continuum.
PRAYER: God, give us vision and passion for the day we will taste life, fully and perfectly. But also give us strength and passion for the days between the now and not yet.
