SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 49:23 NIV Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.
THOUGHT: Although this is the pivotal verse of Isaiah 49, it’s hard to do the chapter justice with just a verse. You may want to read it all. It is a prophetic word about the restoration of a country that has been destroyed. In particular, God restores the land (v. 8), frees captives and those in darkness (v. 9), and restores families – parents see their children come home until more room must be made to hold all the joyful reunions (v. 17-23). THEN, says our long-suffering God, finally then, you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.
For every heart today who feels life turned upside down, hold on. You are a child of God and you are not forgotten. “I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands….” (v. 15-16). Hope in God; you will not be disappointed.
PRAYER: We put our hope in you, Lord, praying for restoration, freedom, and families who find healing and incredible joy in gathering – celebrations so big, more room must be found (v. 20).
