Borrowed Faith

SCRIPTURE: 2 Tim. 1:6-7 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

THOUGHT: So, for what reason? Just prior to this encouragement, Paul reminds Timothy of the sincere faith of his mother and grandmother passed on to him. And then, there is the gift of God, a gift for ministry, transferred to him through Paul’s own hands.

Timothy, like many of us, has some borrowed faith to add to his own; others who’ve poured truth into him until he has enough to give away.

Whose faith have you borrowed from over the years? Take a minute to thank God for them today – to remember who helped you learn to let go of fear, walking out on a limb into trust; into believing, and living like you believe that power, love, and self-control are yours if you but fan the flame.

PRAYER: Thank you, oh God, that I am not alone. Not only are you with me and for me, I am also reminded of others who agape-d you enough to agape me too. Help me fan the flame of these gifts!
