Lighthouse Keeper

SCRIPTURE: John 1:5 AMP The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].

THOUGHT: We likely need encouragement these days that darkness simply cannot overwhelm light. If you need a little more of that, go here to look at the many ways this single verse has been translated throughout the centuries. One says the light can’t be defeated, one says it can’t be extinguished, one says it can’t be apprehended, another says the darkness can’t comprehend it, and on it goes.

I’d just like to point out that the light of God is dispersed into each willing human soul, making us the light of the world as Jesus claimed (Matthew 5:14); lights that cannot be overwhelmed. Like lighthouse keepers, we must be passionate about the light under our care, risking life and limb to keep it strong, clean, fueled, and ready for the storm.

PRAYER: When we see others getting flack for shining light in darkness, it’s tempting to diminish our own light, Lord. Give us courage and strength, and love for this light you’ve ignited in us!
