SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 19:22 NKJV What is desired in a man is kindness, And a poor man is better than a liar.
THOUGHT: As a lead up to Valentine’s Day, I’m doing a short series on kindness.
Did you know there’s a difference between being kind and just being “nice?” Niceness is about wanting others to see you and like you, but kindness is deeper. It does what is right and good, often quietly and regardless of what others think. I’ve been blessed to watch Godly men embody strong kindness. And just like the kindness of God that leads to repentance (yesterday’s devo), it’s not a quality that is appreciated by everyone.
Many translations render the word “kindness” as “loyalty” or “faithfulness,” which stand in contrast to the idea of being dishonest, and focused only on what’s in it for them.
Men, your kindness, your loyalty, and your faithfulness are Godly. We need them, and the world needs them.
PRAYER: Oh God, thank you for the faithful, loyal, kind men who’ve been examples to us in the faith. Strengthen their hearts and wills to follow hard after you.
LINK: I got to preach on Sunday – recorded it from home as Fred and I went into quarantine, and later got news we both have COVID. It’s all about the interruptions we are experiencing at an accelerated pace, so God provided a big dose of reality as I was preparing to speak. If you need an encouraging word about the two sides to every interruption, you can hear it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4GVMJEMCqk
