SCRIPTURE: Genesis 2:15NIV The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
THOUGHT: Usually about mid-February, thoughts turn to gardening. Winter’s whims have worn me down and I am ready for bluer skies and greener grass. It’s probably partly a legacy of growing up in Texas, this February longing for things to grow again. But here in the North, my dreams of warm earth are still tucked under a blanket of snow.
We were all born for a garden. Our original work had nothing to do with weeds and everything to do with growing, cultivating, pruning, and maintaining beauty. Imagine! Sometimes when the chaos of the world gets to be too much – the traffic, the noise, the dirt and grime and graffiti, I remember that. There was once stillness, broken by bird song and water flowing and fruit, heavy with promise, dropping to the ground.
PRAYER: I believe someday I will see your gardens, God. What a delight that will be. Perhaps you’ll have work for me there that has nothing to do with weeds, and nothing to do with winter.
