SCRIPTURE: Romans 15:13 NIV May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
THOUGHT: My friend, Sandy, says this is a spiritual warfare passage. I never thought of it that way, but she is wise in the ways of spiritual warfare, and I surely don’t know of anything more revolutionary than hope, joy and peace as we stand looking at our battlefields. It’s much easier to lob sarcasm, bitterness, and hate bombs, or to lay down our weapons altogether in defeat. But – in the best way possible – there is something wildly rebellious in the heart that refuses. The heart that is hooked into hope so powerful and counter-cultural that it cannot and will not give up. Songwriter Sara Groves put it so eloquently: hope stands in defiance.
May your hope stand in defiance this week!

PRAYER: Oh God of all hope, fill me up with what I cannot manufacture! With hope, joy and peace, I can face every battle.
