Priceless

SCRIPTURE Proverbs 23:23 NIV Buy the truth and do not sell it—wisdom, instruction and insight as well.

THOUGHT There are things we buy with the thought of their value for selling. Anyone who loves FB Marketplace, Craigslist, or other such tools knows what I’m talking about. Furniture, antiques, clothing, books, cars, collectibles…one man’s trash is another man’s treasure and all that.

But there are things we don’t buy to sell. Truth, for one. We live in a culture where “truth” is perceived as highly personal, subjective, relative. If you don’t like it, you sell it for something different. The challenge of agreeing on a set of moral values to form a culture, a nation, or even a denomination (for heavens sake!) is lost, and we are the poorer.

So, today’s encouragement is buy something priceless. Truth from the Spirit of truth, wisdom that will stand the test of time. Buy insight and instruction and don’t let go. You’re going to need a firm grip.

PRAYER Sometimes we don’t know how much we’re going to need something that is easily had now, Lord God. Your word says, over and over, get truth, get wisdom. Help us feel the urgency of your instructions and the grace of your invitation to more.
