SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 4:23-24 NLT My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
THOUGHT: The writer of Proverbs had an apprentice like many of us do: a child he hoped would really listen, deeply, to what he said – to not only comprehend, but apprehend, to lay hold of something so deeply it becomes a part of you. If you’re a parent, I know you hope for that in your kids. In the same breath, maybe it’s a good time to remember that God calls us his children. It’s what he hopes for from us, his apprentices.
Solomon says that when you apprehend, when you allow wisdom to penetrate deep into your heart, it will bring life and healing to your whole body. And that’s a promise from a God worth apprenticing yourself to.
PRAYER: Let me be like Mary, who sat at your feet and really apprehended you, Jesus. You said she had chosen the better part and it would not be taken from her. I want life and healing and believe you are the source of both.
