Big Picture Jesus

SCRIPTURE: Romans 3:25-26 MSG God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in him sets us in the clear. God decided on this course of action in full view of the public—to set the world in the clear with himself through the sacrifice of Jesus, finally taking care of the sins he had so patiently endured. This is not only clear, but it’s now—this is current history! God sets things right. He also makes it possible for us to live in his rightness.

THOUGHT: Like a magnified John 3:16 where Jesus summarizes his own purpose, Paul summarizes the big picture here: the who and what (Jesus, on the altar of the world, a sacrifice God could fully accept without any strings attached), the when (when we have faith in Jesus), the where (the whole world, past, present and future), and the why (because God sets things right!).

The cross is the culmination of the Big Plan of God to save the world as it self-destructs. Easter is the celebration that follows because in the Big Plan of God, life triumphs over death – and God loves a good celebration!

PRAYER: Allow us to step into your heart and mind, capturing the Big Picture of the world you love and the son you love, oh God. To see the perfect lamb willing to follow your plan for a once-for-all sacrifice; to know it would never be needed again and a celebration was coming! Help us both mourn and celebrate as you do. Thank you for making it possible for us to live in your right-ness.
