Working Out & Working In

SCRIPTURE: Phil. 2:12-13 NIV Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

THOUGHT: Something is in you that has to be worked out, kneaded as it were, from the heart, until you can feel it in your bones, arteries, and muscles, to the tips of your fingers and toes. That something is your salvation. It happened one day when you said ‘yes’ to God and opened the door. Then the Holy Spirit, no less God than God, moved in and began working in you – to fulfill God’s good purposes in your life. From the heart outward, there is work we participate in to transform every part of us to new life in Christ (also no less God than God). But never alone.

The amazing triune God is at work, giving you the desire and the power to move the gospel out of your heart, all the way through the tips of your fingers and toes. The Message calls it “God’s energy, an energy deep within you (v. 13).”

There is a holy sanctuary inside where it all starts, and from the day it does, we are on holy ground. Working it outward is holy work, fear and trembling necessary.

PRAYER: There is holy ground in me, Lord, even when I can’t see it or feel it and go through my days, unaware. Be at work ever more in me as I work out the salvation you’ve gifted me with fear and trembling. Thank you!
