SCRIPTURE: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5 NIV
THOUGHT: Here is one of those passages that talks about salvation as a now-and-not-yet complete act. It is completely settled when we bow a knee to Jesus, but we don’t get to fully see all it means until it’s “revealed in the last time,” says Peter. What we do have fully now is a living hope – guaranteed by Jesus’ ability to resurrect dead flesh. We know that death is not the end, and we have been promised an inheritance that doesn’t have an expiration date. Plus, an especially powerful word for today: because of our faith, we are shielded by God’s power until all that is promised comes to fruition. A great tradeoff for faith, thank you God!
PRAYER: Thank you, Father, for living hope, and for an inheritance kept by you in a safe place, waiting for the great reveal: everything it means that you have rescued and redeemed. Until that day, we are under your protection and glad of it.
