Unadorned Brussel Sprouts

SCRIPTURE: So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:31-33 NLT

THOUGHT: As I write, it’s not lost on me that I must eat my own words. So, cautiously, this is the thought I offer and it’s not chocolate cake and it’s not grilled steak; more like spinach or unadorned brussel sprouts: When everything is great, it’s a lot easier to trust God will provide. But when the cupboards are almost bare, the diagnosis is uttered, or things just continue to go wrong, do I really believe God knows my needs and furthermore, cares about them? It seems like Jesus is saying ‘yes’ to that. My job is to just keep on doing what is right, praying and hoping and seeking for his kingdom, and just not worry about everything else. It will be there if I need it, and good for me even if it tastes a little like unadorned brussel sprouts.

PRAYER: Dear Father, I come again to the crossroads. Will I trust you? Or will I doubt you and trust myself to try to make everything work out right? I’ve been here so many times, and trusting you is where I want to land. I do believe, help my unbelief.
