SCRIPTURE: Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:5-8 NLT
THOUGHT: I never feel far from the storm these days. It’s like I’m riding along the eye of a hurricane some days and the winds seem eerily calm, but I’m just in a lull before it breaks over me again. Call me weak, but I need daily and sometimes hourly reminders that God is with us, God is for us. And it occurs to me that I can’t really claim the promises of Psalm 62:5-8 until everything else I’ve depended on is stripped away.
There is a fortress where, when everything else is shaken, you and I will not be shaken. We enter that place, wait quietly, hope, find refuge and protection, and pour out our hearts to the one we trust. Hidden there, our enemies cannot reach us. Our victory and honor within the storm is a matter just between God and us, not for the world to see or know or name.

PRAYER: Triune God, I feel the storm bearing down. I want to thunder and yell and demand – but instead, I run to the fortress where I will not be shaken. I wait as quietly as this restless heart can for your salvation, for the victory and honor that can only satisfy when it comes from you. Be my refuge I pray.
