Endgame

SCRIPTURE: Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am faithful to you; save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God; have mercy on me, Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, Lord, for I put my trust in you. Psalm 86:1-4 NIV

THOUGHT: Have you ever tried to blubber your way through a song while you were crying? Although Psalms is typically a book of songs, this psalm is simply titled “a prayer of David.” Perhaps his heart is too broken to sing these words. He cries out to God as poor and needy, in danger, and desperate for mercy. But David’s endgame isn’t just protection and provision – shockingly, it’s joy.

The thought for today is this: how often do you plead for protection and provision? Compare that to the frequency with which you ask for joy as a result of trusting God for the other things you need. Which is your endgame?

PRAYER: How often have I forgotten in the midst of fear and neediness, to ask you for joy because I have put my trust in you, oh Lord? Forgive me for running from one problem to another, forgetting that in trusting you, I can relinquish my worries into your hands and become like a child with nothing but time and adventure ahead. Of such is your kingdom.
