Resolution

SCRIPTURE: Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me. Psalm 86:17 NIV

THOUGHT: The final verse of Psalm 86 ends as so many of King David’s Psalms: after he pours out his heart to King God there is a resolution to his lament: You, Lord, have helped me and comforted me. There is also a curious request for a sign of that King’s favor that his enemies can see so they, too, will know that David is under God’s protection.

I’ve prayed sometimes that I would not be put to shame, but am wondering if I’ve ever prayed that my enemies would have cause for shame when they see the goodness of God? When they see his help and comfort flow into my life and avert the damage they sought to inflict? It’s worth thinking about; it’s worth praying about. May our enemies witness the goodness of God today – may it shame them into thinking about just who this King God is and create a desire for his goodness in their own lives!

PRAYER: King God, you are the king of kings and the God of gods. When we are in need and you hear us and answer, we are helped and comforted. Will you show your goodness in such a way that even our enemies see it and drop their jaws.
